2023 Election: Osun APC Lambasts Adeleke

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has faulted the embattled state Governor Ademola Adeleke over his sermon for maintenance of peace during the ongoing electioneering.

It would be recalled that Adeleke yesterday held his first state security meeting with all the service chiefs in the state in a way suggestive of hearkening to the informed advisory of the opposition APC pointing out that it was an administrative abnormality for Adeleke to have refused to hold a security meeting.

Adeleke, at the haphazardly arranged meeting, was said to have spoken glowingly about the need not to introduce violence into democracy as political campaigns were entering the most critical stage.

Governor Adeleke, at the same meeting, directed the security agencies to arrest and prosecute all identified thugs and criminals across the state.

In his response, the Acting Chairman of the APC in Osun State, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, in a statement issued by the party's Director of Media and Information, Chief Kola Olabisi, in Osogbo today, stated that Adeleke's preachment is hypocritical, for his government is a backer and collaborationist of hoodlums and violent 'political enforcers' in the state, hence it is a sharp contrast of the vain ideal he espouses.

According to Lawal: "We hope that Governor Adeleke would endeavour to remove the log in his eyes before he hankers to remove the speck in another person's eyes.

"It is important the embattled governor flushes out the notorious political thugs who have turned his Ede country home into their refuge before he thinks of extending same to the nooks and crannies of the state.

"We are of the conviction that Governor Adeleke is not being sincere with his recent preaching of gospel for peace in the state as it is a fact that his administration has institutionalized, glorified and rewarded thuggery so much so that some of the known dangerous and notorious thugs in the state, like Emir Ajagungbade who goes around with police escort even though he had been declared wanted by the same police, now hold sensitive positions in his administration.

"Adeleke's rhetoric at the security meeting, as to relative peace and harmonious living in the state, is a mere political talk meant to hoodwink the gathering, for since November 27 inauguration day of his administration, the state has become East Timor and Afghanistan because political assassination and maiming of our members have been on the increase.

"Has the government security report disclosed to Governor Adeleke that a member of our party, Ebenezer Alaro, was last Friday in Ilesa slaughtered by a known PDP thug and that another member of our party in Ikire, Oyegunju Saheed a.k.a. 'SP', was, few days ago, abducted and subsequently killed by another group of PDP thugs ostensibly on the instruction of Akogun Lere Oyewumi, the PDP senatorial candidate for Osun West and a political associate of Adeleke ?

"Adeleke is a negative model to his political devotees because if he had divorced himself from politics of vendetta, victimisation, oppression and vindictiveness, his lieutenants and members of his party, behind all the security breaches and rising crises in the state, would have seen a genuine reason for imbibing peace in its entirety," Lawal stated.
